EXPERIENCED DANCERS :

• The Saturday cycle of 9 half-day workshops for experienced dancers are devoted to the dances to be performed at the costume « Playford/Young » Ball on Sunday, May 8 2011 during AN AFTERNOON IN THE ENGLISH FASHION  : first HALF-DAY WORKSHOP  saturday september 11
  

The « talented friends » programme started last year; it gives us an outlook on the world of others. 
In the first two sessions, our guests will tells us of their activity, provide us with a demonstration, then help us have a try.

Saturday, June 12 TALENTED GENEVIÈVE DESLOGIS "Royal Lodgings in Paris" Visit and Conference	Geneviève Deslogis-Viollet, a lecturer on art and history, will take us through some Paris neighbourhoods and tell us about royal houses in Paris. Where and when :
Venue A  from 10:30 to 12:30, and 14:00 to 17:00  (the hall opens at 10 :15).
During lunch break, you are welcome to bring a picnic and eat on the spot.
Alternatively, you will find several restaurants in the neighbourhood.

Fees: the fees apply to the whole day workshop; there is no half-day fee.

This one and only workshop for beginners will help them get a good start.
They will be taught the movements with their names, so as to be able to take part in dances following the caller’s instructions.
No previous knowledge is thus required.
Besides the vocabulary used by the caller, an understanding of musical phrases and styles will be developed.
This workshop will be devoted to progressing in a duple minor longway and a longway for three couples. After this initiation you may go further with the half-day workshops taking place every other Saturday in Paris 12, or/and with the weekly evening class, every Thursday.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT REQUIRED LEVEL : if you register for one of these workshops you must be able to dance sequels of single and double steps, be proficient in the introductions to 17th century English country dancing, and master progression in a duple minor longway set. You must also be familiar with circular heys, casting, and figures of eight.

Sunday, November 8 (experienced dancers)	« Fancies, Delights and  Maggots opus 1 »   First we shall see two modern Pat Shaw dances: Monica’s Delight and Mr Ganiford’s Maggot, then two - Doctor Vincent’s Delight et Frances Ann’s Delight -  respectively by Charles Bolton and Georges Middleton. We’ll have another look at Nancy’s Fancy, a dance collected by Cecil Sharp, to music recently recorded by Chestnut in “The Toddler”
Sunday, January 24 (experienced dancers)	« Fancies, Delights and  Maggots opus 2 » The second workshop will cover, on the one hand, a beautiful Pat Shaw dance for five couples, Miss Avril’s Delight, and on the other hand three dances out of old collections:  Paston’s Maggot / Kynaston, Dick’s Maggot / Henry Playford  et Mr Lane’s Maggot (The Round) / J. Young
Sunday, March 21 (experienced dancers)	«  Rumours of war »  For the third and last workshop we shall call on three publishers : John Playford (The Gun), Henry Playford (Siege of Limerick and Lilliburlero)  and Thompson (Guardian Angels and the Disbanded Officer)

Fees  / Running the workshop implies knowing beforehand how many persons will attend, so registration is mandatory .

Class will start on Thursday, September 12, 2009 and end Thursday, June 17, 2010. No class during school holidays.
Time: from 18:30 to 19:45 for beginners, from 19:45 to 21:15 for more experienced country dancers. Venue A

BEGINNERS : if you have no previous experience of dancing or country dancing, you will learn to link up singles and doubles, in particular in introductions, and to move up or down in a duple minor set or a three couple longway.

BALLS / ABC for the Ball / Starting at an English Ball

Everybody may join in, from total beginner to really accomplished dancer!

With live music by the PAPA RICHARD ensemble, Chestnut’s Balls are called by Cécile LAYE.
Calling means you are told what to do just before you have to do it!
If you are a beginner, be sure to come early: the first few dances are the easiest ones; they will make you familiar with the terms used and the moves.
Later in the evening, a few more complicated dances will show what a rich and varied repertoire exists.

The programme includes, besides the dances studied at workshops and weekly classes,
a few dances for couples (waltz, scottish, polkas) and a few Renaissance dances.
Christophe RICHARD (accordion) and Valérie BOURGOIN-RICHARD (flute) play music for our workshops.  
One or more musicians will join them to play for the Balls as the Papa Richard ensemble

The dances for the « Playford/Young » Ball are on the programme of the cycle of 9 half-day workshops for experienced dancers, held on Saturdays.

For our last Ball of the year, we’ll celebrate with a whole afternoon devoted to old English music and dance.

If you like, bring a costume (we’ll have a while to dress just before the Ball). However please note you are under no obligation to dress up in 17th or 18th century garb!

Come in everyday clothes as long as you feel like dancing. First you will watch, then join in the dance.

Limited number of participants (maximum 80) - pre-booking is mandatory
